CHARLOTTE. NC – In December 2009, the youth group from Providence Road Church of Christ helped us kick off our new Party-In-A-Bag Program by holding a donation drive.  These party celebration kits are delivered to school social workers so that homeless middle school students can celebrate their birthdays at home with family members.  Thanks to their diligence and enthusiasm, the group raised a total of $547 worth of items.

But they didn’t stop there.

Three groups of teenagers from the church participated in a day of service at our offices by assembling Party-In-a-Bag Kits, wrapping presents and creating 200 candy necklaces for our December shelter parties.

“The kids worked fast, and had lots of fun doing the necklaces,” said Volunteer Program Manager Terri Springer.  “The teens experienced a new understanding of the challenges that homeless children face every day, and several have asked to volunteer again for Birthday Blessings.”

A new generation of volunteers … what a blessing!
