Stuff-the-Stockings holiday event and family service project, Nov. 14

Youth volunteers enjoyed stuffing stockings for homeless children at our Stuff-the-Stockings Holiday event in December 2009.

Check out the stocking wish list here.

CHARLOTTE, NC –  Before you stuff your turkey, come stuff the stockings at our third annual holiday event and family service project on November 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cornwell Center in Myers Park at 2001 Selwyn Avenue.

Every December at Birthday Blessings’ shelter parties, hundreds of homeless children are surprised with holiday stockings and winter wonderland bags stuffed with treats in lieu of our traditional party goodie bags. Last year, more than 300 stockings and holiday treat bags brought excitement and joy to needy kids in the greater Charlotte area. This December, we’ll need 400 for homeless children across the 14 facilities and programs that we now serve.

You bring the stuffers; we’ll provide the stockings!

Please join us at our very own Santa’s Workshop for an afternoon of holiday fun and a festive opportunity for your family to work together on behalf of homeless children during the holiday season of giving. Event festivities include our signature Stuff-the-Stockings family service project, a bounce house, arts and crafts, cookie decorating, holiday face painting, balloons, and fun activities to get your kids moving, as well as refreshments for both kids and adults.

Event sponsors include The Charlotte Observer/MomsCharlotte, Little Ones Magazine, the Cornwell CenterFamily Dollar, Your Event Source, BJ’s Wholesale Club, AllRecipes.com, KidzArt, Children’s Party Plus, and Mister Twister.

Was the White Rabbit late for that very important date?

Not for this party…. the White Rabbit was right on time for our annual Biggest Birthday Bash movie event on April 24!

The lobby at Ayrsley Grand Cinemas was bustling with kids of all ages for the pre-show birthday party, before they settled into the theatre for a classic cartoon movie of Alice and her Wonderland friends reprised on the big screen.

Creative minds and crafty hands were hard at work designing their own “mad hats,” while little smiles grew into Cheshire cat grins with visits from Alice and the White Rabbit.  Faces were painted, cookies were decorated—and devoured—along with all of the usual movie-going treats like popcorn and candies.  Needless to say, there was nothing “unbirthday” about this Birthday Blessings family-fun party!

Thanks to all of our Biggest Birthday Bash sponsors for making this annual event a fun one for all, including Ayrsley Grand Cinemas for graciously hosting the bash.  We were happy to team up once again with our partners at MomsCharlotte, Little Ones Magazine, and Wish Upon A Star Parties.  This year we were also excited to welcome our newest event participant, Children’s Party Plus. The kids were thrilled with their fantastic face-painted designs.  And a very special thank you goes out to Laura Mueller Photography for capturing all of the fun on film!  What a day!

“Stuff-the-Stockings” holiday event a tremendous success

CHARLOTTE, NC – Thanks to our many generous sponsors, volunteers and event attendees, Birthday Blessings’ second annual Stuff-the-Stockings event was a tremendous success!
On Sunday, December 6th approximately 200 kids and parents came to Gymboree Play and Music in Ballantyne and helped fill over 300 stockings with gifts and goodies for local needy children.  The afternoon was filled with holiday fun as families worked together on behalf of homeless children during the season of giving.

Event festivities included a kids’ cookie decorating station and scrumptious baked treats sponsored by Crumbs for a Cause, a tree garland craft activity courtesy of Kristen Venit with Phoenix Trading, elaborate face painting designs provided by the Pixie Chicks, wild and wacky balloon creations by Mister Twister, and lots of fun play time in the Gymboree gym!

Thanks to all of our great volunteers and generous sponsors who helped make the day such a wonderful success.  And a big “thank you” to everyone who came out with donations to help support this effort!
